Australia Woman Gives Birth to Dead Baby After Failed Abortion

Queensland, Australia (LifeNews.com) -- An Australian woman has given birth to a dead unborn child just days after she thought she had a completed abortion at a local hospital. The teenager had the abortion at Royal Darwin Hospital but documents obtained by the Northern Territory News show the abortion was failed.

The 17-year-old mother was hysterical when she gave birth to the dead baby at her home at Nguiu on Bathurst Island following the abortion, the girl's aunt said. "She was really hurt and cried and then she turned to my sister and said you're a murderer, you're a murderer, you made me kill my baby," she said. "She even said it was a boy. My sister had to pick up the baby in a box. The clinic wanted to know nothing about the baby. She had to bury it in the backyard." Obtained letters from the doctor to the family said the suction cannula he used was too small to get the baby out of her womb after the abortion killed him.

The teen now is "suffering from severe psychological stress" from the procedure. The teenage mother's aunt was outraged about the failed abortion. "(The doctor) should be held accountable for what he's done wrong," she said. "He used the wrong machine. But when you pull out the baby he must have seen if the baby came out or not. Why didn't he do it right?"

However, the hospital denies the abortion practitioner failed the abortion. "That procedure was conducted but due to patient privacy it is not appropriate for RDH to discuss specific details of the case," hospital spokeswoman Kasey Brunt said in a statement, according to the newspaper. "However, it is not unusual for retained products or discharge to be passed by a patient following an obstetric procedure."
