Lobby the Queensland Government

Life Network Australia - Saturday, May 09, 2009
(From Salt Shakers 8 May, 2009)

Queensland
Children by Choice, an activist group supporting abortion, has issued a Media Release calling for the decriminalisation of abortion in Queensland.

It says:  “Children by Choice says Queensland has more restrictive abortion laws than many developing countries, and is calling on the new State Government to act urgently to decriminalise abortion."

The media release refers to the recent case in Cairns, where a young woman is being prosecuted for importing and using an abortion drug – they claim this means the government should decriminalise abortion to remove the ‘risk’ of prosecution.

NSW
The Greens are running a campaign to decriminalise/legalise abortion. NSW Greens MP Lee Rhiannon launched a campaign in early March and held a public forum on May 1, 2009 at the NSW Parliament.

They have called on the Premier, Nathan Rees to introduce legislation – they say that if the Labor government doesn’t do so, the Greens will introduce a private member’s bill to decriminalise abortion.

Action
If you live in Queensland or NSW please write to your own MPs and ask them NOT to support the decriminalisation/legalisation of abortion. Even better – visit them to let them know your views! Also write to the Premier and the Leader of the Opposition.

Rally for Life, Eleventh Anniversary

Life Network Australia - Thursday, May 07, 2009
The Coalition for the Defence of Human Life is holding a rally to mark the eleventh anniversary of the passage of the Acts Amendment (Abortion) Act 1998 in WA. The rally is to give public witness to the grief at the killing of 90,000 children before birth since the Act was passed and to renew determination to reverse this heinous “law”. It is also to commit to restore legal protection to unborn children and to make abortion history. The rally will be held at Parliament House (Perth) on Thursday 21st May at 12 noon.

Also attending will be retiring MPs who have fought the good fight during their time in Parliament, newly elected MPs who are committed to the defence of human life, and prolife MPs who are continuing to serve in the Parliament of Western Australia.
