Abortion in Australia

How many abortions occur in Australia?

Life Network Australia - Monday, July 13, 2009
Abortion crosses in a field
An estimated 80,000 - 90,000 surgical abortions are performed in Australia each year. 1 , 2 This equates to approximately 250 per day, or one abortion for every 2.8 live births.3 One in three Australian women will have an abortion in their lifetime. 4

An accurate number can not be calculated using the current systems of statistical collection. 5 An analysis of the available data has been prepared by the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare.

There are no statistics available for the number of chemical abortions in Australia. The ‘morning after pill’, Postinor-2 is available over the counter and accounts for an unknown number of early abortions. A combination of drugs, Methotrexate and Misoprostal, is also widely used to induce abortion before 7 weeks gestation. This is done as a general consult by doctors and the number is not recorded.

How can so many be concerned about the animals being mistreated when our future generations are being so easily discarded.

It's a life! You created it, you deal with it...there's always adoption. There is always an alternative. We can't keep losing the future generations... It's a topic that just can't keep being brushed under the mat...WAKE UP AUSTRALIA!!!

Re: Anonymous comment on 7th November @ 10:01am - Only 1% of abortions are attributable to rape, and more than half of the late-term abortions each year are done for psychosocial reasons, NOT medical reasons. The latest statistics released by the government
on infant and neonatal mortality rates for the year 2008 demonstrate this quite clearly. Would you want to be the person to tell someone who was born as a product of rape that they shouldn't be alive because abortion is their mother's right? I certainly wouldn't.
Google Layne Beachley, she is one such baby.

why are more rights given to the unborn group of cells than the mother bearing it when it comes to abortion? its her choice and no one else can tell her other wise.

To an 'unborn group of cells', "it's her choice" ? So much misinformation in the question and statement. To start with, life begins at conception...any embryologist will tell you that - if it isnt a life, why does it need to be aborted (killed)? , Secondly
the growth and development of the foetus (Latin meaning 'Little one')is so rapid, that by the time most women learn they are pregnant, the baby has a heartbeat and their organs are developing quickly, along with fingers, toes etc.. Thirdly, in Australia, babies
are now being aborted right up until birth - with some babies even being born alive and left to die (Victorian Health Department Report, 2008)- over half of them are perfectly healthy babies. In terms of women's "choice", that is the catch phrase of the abortion
industry, who make big bucks from giving women and girls abortions...what most women report is that they had an abortion because they felt they had no other choice. Please go to our home page and see reasons why women "choose" abortion. Feminist Germaine Greer
said that "Abortion is the last non choice in a long list of non choices". Abortion hurts women, men, babies and families, sometimes for decades afterwards.. Check out Melinda Tankard-Reist's book 'Giving Sorrow Words' for insight into the devastation caused
by abortion for many women. We actually believe that babies, women and families deserve better than abortion. Abortion doesn't make a woman unpregnant, it makes her the mother of a dead baby...something the abortion industry knows but will never rell you!
Women should "Refuse to choose" - check out feministsforlife.org . Thanks for your question - hope this brief explanation helps. Please check out other info on our website to get an overview of abortion in Australia.. the situation has become a nightmare!!

I am so shocked and horrified that when ever l raise my view that abortion is infact a crime against the unborn baby who cannot defend his/herself.many women verbaly attack me because l am a male. Well might l say that as a gay man me and my boyfriend
would love to adopt babys and save them from the gas chambers. How many future aussies have to die?l am sure aussie hetrosexual familys would love to adopt these unborn babys.ln 1972 my mother sought out an illegal abortion but changed her mind. L am happy
to be alive and every year on my birthday l say thankyou.

God designed us, he created life in us, and yet we think we have the right to take that precious gift away? Just because we made a bad decision and can't deal with the consequences? The supposed "fetus" inside of you is a person. A living, breathing human
being, alive from day one. In Psalm 139 it states- " Your eyes saw my unformed body. All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be. " How can we still say that this unborn child does not deserve a chance at life? How
can this happen?

abortions are sickening. It not only destroys the life of a baby but it also can cause many implications for the women in future pregnancies.Just look up some of the procedures. They are really disturbing. I am only a teenager and i don't support it at
all. Where is the sense of responsibility in people? There are other alternatives as well as ways to prevent getting pregnant in the first place
